Why a 2 Burner BBQ Cover Is Essential for Your Grill’s Survival

A 2 burner bbq cover is the single easiest way to protect your grill from rust, UV damage, rain, and coastal weather — and the right one can add years to your grill’s life.

Here are the top things to know before you buy:

  • Size: Most 2-burner grills need a cover in the 30–50 inch range. Common dimensions include 49″ W x 20″ D x 36.5″ H or 32″ W x 24″ D x 42″ H.
  • Material: Look for 600D polyester with a waterproof polyvinyl coating, or heavy-duty vinyl for maximum durability.
  • Key features: Air vents, windproof straps, UV protection, and padded handles make a big difference.
  • Fit type: Universal covers work across many brands; custom-fit covers (like those for Weber or Char-Broil) offer a snugger, more secure fit.
  • Price range: Budget options start around $20–$22. Mid-range covers run $30–$36. Premium brand-specific covers can reach $50+.

Living near the coast — like here on James Island or Folly Beach — means your grill faces salt air, humidity, and sudden storms year-round. A quality cover isn’t optional. It’s protection for an investment you use every weekend.

The helpful team at Lowcountry Ace has helped countless local homeowners find the right outdoor cooking gear to stand up to Lowcountry weather, including the best 2 burner bbq cover options for every grill type and budget. We know what works here — and we’re here to help you choose wisely.

Choosing the Right 2 Burner BBQ Cover for Your Setup

When you walk into our shop at the Riverland Market on Folly Road, we often see folks overwhelmed by the sheer number of options. Finding the right 2 burner bbq cover isn’t just about picking the first black fabric you see; it’s about matching the material to our unique South Carolina climate.

Material durability is the foundation of a good cover. In 2026, the industry standard has shifted toward 600D polyester and heavy-duty vinyl. These materials are engineered to withstand the intense sun of a Charleston summer and the damp, salty air of Folly Beach. If you’re looking for more info about Bbq Grill Covers, understanding these material differences is key.

Heavy-Duty Materials for a 2 Burner BBQ Cover

High-quality covers utilize a waterproof polyvinyl coating on the interior. This ensures that even during a tropical downpour, water beads off the surface rather than soaking through to your burners. Tear resistance is another factor—600D (denier) fabric is thick enough to resist snagging on sharp grill corners or being shredded by a stray neighborhood cat.

Fade-resistant fabric is a must-have for any Outdoor Cooking Equipment kept on a sunny patio. Without UV protection, a black cover will turn a dusty gray within a single season. Premium covers weave UV inhibitors directly into the fabric to ensure it stays looking new through 2026 and beyond.

Sizing Your 2 Burner BBQ Cover for a Snug Fit

Size matters. A cover that is too large will flap in the wind like a sail, while one that is too small won’t protect the lower cabinet or wheels. Most 2-burner grills fall into the 30-50 inch width range.

For example, a standard Megamaster often fits a 49-inch cover, while more compact models like a Weber Spirit might only need a 32-inch width. Always check your depth clearance (usually 20-25 inches) and height requirements (35-42 inches) to ensure the bottom of the grill is shielded from splashing rain.

Essential Features of High-Quality Grill Protection

The difference between a “cheap” cover and a high-quality 2 burner bbq cover lies in the details. It’s not just about keeping the rain off; it’s about managing the environment underneath the fabric.

Ventilation and Condensation Control

One of the biggest myths we hear is that a cover causes rust. In reality, it’s trapped moisture that causes the problem. High-quality covers feature built-in air vents. These vents allow for moisture evaporation and heat dissipation. If you cover a grill that is still slightly warm (though you should wait until it’s cool!), the vents prevent condensation from forming on the stainless steel, which is the primary defense against mildew and rust mitigation.

Security in High Winds

If you’ve ever spent a night on James Island during a storm, you know how hard the wind can blow. Without windproof straps or adjustable drawstrings, your cover might end up in your neighbor’s yard. Look for covers with buckle straps that wrap around the legs or heavy-duty Velcro fasteners. These features provide essential coastal weather protection, ensuring the fabric stays snug against the grill body even when the gusts pick up.

Top-Rated 2-Burner Grill Covers for 2026

As we look at the best options available in April 2026, several brands stand out for their durability and fit. Whether you prefer a custom-fit model or a versatile universal option, there is a cover designed for your specific needs.

Premium Brand Compatibility

Many manufacturers design covers specifically for their models. This “fits like a glove” approach ensures every knob and handle is covered without excess fabric.

  • Weber: The Weber Premium Grill Cover for Small Spirit Grills has a stellar 4.5/5 rating from over 1,700 reviews. It’s famous for its breathable fabric and snug fit.

Budget vs. Premium Value

At Lowcountry Ace, we carry a range of price points.

  • Budget ($20–$25): Options like the Megamaster 49 in. cover offer great value. With 165 reviews, it’s a solid choice for basic protection. These are usually made of thinner polyester but still offer water resistance.
  • Mid-Range ($30–$40): This is the “sweet spot” for many. You’ll find 600D heavy-duty fabric and features like padded handles and air vents.
  • Premium ($45+): These often come with longer warranties (sometimes up to a year or more) and are made of the heaviest materials. They offer the best long-term ROI because they won’t need replacing every season.

Measuring and Maintaining Your Grill Cover

Before you buy your 2 burner bbq cover, grab a measuring tape. Don’t guess! We’ve seen many folks have to make a return trip because they underestimated the width of their side shelves.

Proper Installation Steps

  1. Cooling Period: Never put a cover on a hot grill. Wait at least 15-20 minutes until the exterior is cool to the touch.
  2. Side Table Collapse: Check if your grill has foldable side tables. If you plan to store it with the tables down, you can use a much smaller cover (usually around 32 inches wide).
  3. Alignment: Center the cover over the hood and pull down evenly.
  4. Securing Straps: Tighten the Velcro or buckle straps around the base or legs. This prevents the cover from dragging or blowing away.
  5. Wheel Clearance: A good cover should stop just above the wheels. This prevents moisture from “wicking” up from the ground and allows you to move the grill without removing the cover.

Seasonal Care and Cleaning

To get the most out of your Outdoor Living Supply, a little maintenance goes a long way.

  • Pollen Removal: In South Carolina, the spring “yellow haze” is real. Hose off your cover weekly to prevent pollen buildup.
  • De-icing Salt: If you live right on Folly Beach, salt spray can accumulate. Wipe the cover with mild soap and water to prevent the salt from eating away at the fabric.
  • Storage: If you take the cover off to grill, don’t just throw it on the ground. Fold it loosely and keep it in a dry spot to prevent spiders and pests from moving in.

Frequently Asked Questions about Grill Protection

Does a grill cover cause rust?

This is a common concern! A cover itself does not cause rust. Rust is caused by moisture and oxygen reacting with metal. A non-vented, cheap plastic cover can trap humidity underneath, creating a “sauna” effect. However, a high-quality, vented 2 burner bbq cover actually prevents rust by keeping rain, dew, and salt air off the metal while allowing any internal moisture to escape.

How do I measure my 2-burner grill for a cover?

Measure the width from the outermost edge of the left shelf to the outermost edge of the right shelf. Measure the depth from the front handle to the very back of the grill. Finally, measure the height from the ground to the top of the closed lid. If your shelves fold down, measure the width in that configuration as well.

Can I put a cover on a warm grill?

We strongly advise against it. Not only is there a fire safety risk, but the heat can melt the interior polyvinyl lining of the cover, ruining both the cover and your grill’s finish. Always wait until the grill is cool to the touch.

Conclusion

Protecting your grill in the Lowcountry doesn’t have to be a chore. With the right 2 burner bbq cover, you can rest easy knowing your investment is safe from the salt, sun, and storms. This Ace Hardware store is not really close to my house but I came here after having a poor experience at the Johns Island Ace. I was greeted by friendly employees upon entry and throughout my experience, asked if I needed help, the store atmosphere was cheerful and in organized condition, and they had absolutely no problem exchanging an item purchased at another Ace Hardware for a few other items from their store. I even spent extra money in store. I will drive the extra mileage to come to this store moving forward.

Visited Sunday afternoon 3/23/25. Always a pleasure to browse and shop at this Ace store. A man, Steve, around 4-430 totally helped me in the name of Customer Service. He cut chain for me that isn't sold separately for a hanging basket. Bigger, he followed me to checkout with a bag of soil weighing a ton. Steve insisted I bring my SUV parked in far-away Publix Land so he could lift it out of cart into my SUV. Wouldn't budge on who was moving the soil into the SUV! Thank you again, Steve! Anita

Manager wouldn’t return money to my credit card despite having the same card and rewards number (no receipt), so gift card only. I was told “I’d have to look it up in the computer, it’s tedious”

After talking to other customers, I learned it’s routine to return with same credit card or rewards account.
